Choosing a Landscape Company
When choosing a landscape company, there are many factors to consider.
Insurance: Make sure that the company holds liability insurance for your property and can provide a Workman’s Safety & Insurance (WSIB) certificate.
Longevity: A company that is trustworthy and provides good service will be one that has been in business for a while and is therefore able to service any workmanship issues that may arise in the future.
Quality: Choosing the company that offers the best price is not necessarily a wise decision. There are many additional factors to consider when comparing landscape quotes.
- How comfortable was the communication between you and the contractor?
- Compare materials: soil and aggregate choices, plant/tree varieties and warranties provided, stone choices (varieties can differ widely in cost).
- Look for quality workmanship. For example, in the preparation of a walkway, patio or driveway, a thoroughly compacted aggregate base of at least 6″ must be created to ensure that the lockstone won’t be affected by winter weather. Also check that there is proper reinforcement for lockstone (brick edge), and that a soldier course will be mitred and not pieced together. Check the length of the guarantee on plants, materials and workmanship.
